Re-recording Mixer/Sound Editor/Music Supervisor/Composer/Music Producer

Derek Jones has always been a hard working and driven individual. From an early age he began working as a professional musician and won numerous awards throughout high school for his performances. Derek’s hard work paid off, and he received several scholarships to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied all aspects of music from performance to film scoring to engineering. Derek graduated Berklee Cum Laude with a Bachelors Degree in music, and then moved to the creative center of the entertainment industry, Los Angeles, California, where he currently resides.

Once in L.A., Derek quickly landed jobs as a freelance producer, sound engineer and mixer. Some of the artists he has worked with include Major Label artists David Hollister (Universal Music Group), DJ Quik (Universal Music Group), Won-G (Sony/BMG), Javier (Capitol Records), Stacie Orrico (Virgin Records), The Apex Theory (Dreamworks), the jazz group Shapes, Michael Franks and producers Howie Tee and Jimmy Haslip to name a few. He has also done recording and mixing for most of the TV Networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, WB, UPN), some of the bigger Clear Channel radio stations, radio shows including American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest, and radio and TV commercials for Kroger Foods, Kevin Jewelers, Pollo Comparo, and Bunge International. Derek has recorded, mixed, composed and produced over 140 CDs of music for use in TV and Film, in every style and format imaginable. From Hip-hop to a 40-piece orchestra to a 20-piece big band to a heavy metal power trio, he has literally done it all (and everything in between)!

Under the tutelage of Victoria Rose Sampson, Derek has been following his love for movies, and is very active working in post-production sound for independent films and TV shows. His recent credits include the TV show, Take 2: Harvest Time (Produced by and starring Anson Williams and Don Most); the films Trail End (Starring Barry Corbin), Waiting For Yvette (Starring Wendy Malick), Itty Bitty Titty Committee (Directed by Jamie Babbit), Broken Circle (starring Michael Badalucco), Put It In A Book (Directed by Rodrigo Garcia) and Out At The Wedding (Starring Mike Farrell, Charlie Schlatter); the documentaries Save Our Future and Spiritual Revolution.

Derek was featured in an article for Digidesign’s Digizine magazine last year. The two-page article appeared in the Winter 2007 edition. He was also asked to speak at the 123rd Annual Audio Engineering Society (AES) convention in October of 2007 as part of a panel discussing audio mastering for new media (games, commercials, promos, trailers, webcasts, etc).

Derek’s enthusiasm and creativity drives him to excel in everything he does, from performing to composing to mixing and editing. In his work, as in his life, Derek always strives for perfection, never settling for anything less.
